If you were in the Tempe area on Friday night, chances are you heard ESPN broadcaster Eric Collins’ call of Arizona State softball freshman Kristiana Watson’s go-ahead grand slam against Cal State Fullerton.

Not just on television, but throughout the city as Collins exclaimed, “Hit well, GOOOOOOOONE,” as Watson’s shot snuck over the right-field wall to give ASU a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning at the Tempe Regional.

“What an at-bat! Unbelievable! Kristiana Watson, how do you do!”

The Sun Devils held off the Titans to win their first game of the tournament at Farrington Stadium, avoiding an elimination game on Saturday against LSU.

The Pac-12 champions and 39-game winners during the regular season will face San Diego State at 2 p.m. on Saturday for a chance to reach the regional final.

Collins, renowned for his energetic calls of Charlotte Hornets games during the NBA regular season, has a knack for making electric moments feel larger than life.

That was certainly the case on Friday in one of the most dramatic moments of the day in softball.

This spurred a social media reaction, naturally.
