James Harden is wearing shoes in support of rapper Meek Mill

James Harden will be making a strong, eight-letter statement on the shoes he will be wearing Thursday against the Boston Celtics on TNT: Free Meek.

What does it mean?
According to a report on SI.com, Harden and rapper Meek Mill have been good friends for awhile. With the recent incarceration of the rapper and the controversy surrounding it, Harden will wear shoes to represent the injustice many believe are being served at Meek Mill’s expense.
The shoes, made by Adidas, Harden’s sponsor, appear to be low-top, black sneakers with white soles and the words “Free Meek” running up from the toe through the laces in gold writing.
The shoe also has the logo from James Harden’s brand at the top of the tongue, plus the logo for Meek Mill’s label, MMG, on both sides of the shoe where the heel begins.
Meek Mill was jailed on a two-to-four year sentence Nov. 6 for violating probation.
After Harden’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Christmas day, he found the time to visit Mill in state prison before his next game Dec. 28 against Boston.
Many others have pledged their support for Mill including rappers Jay-Z and T.I.
Former Philadelphia basketball legend Julius Erving and rapper Rick Ross, who is the founder of Mill’s label, even led a protest to overturn Mill’s sentence.
