Former Sun P.J. Tucker shows off expensive taste in sneakers
Houston Rockets forward P.J. Tucker is known for having an elaborate sneaker collection featuring some of the rarest shoes ever released.
So when the former Phoenix Sun went shopping with Joe La Puma of Complex at Flight Club in New York, it shouldn’t come as a surprise when his final bill totaled more than $16,000.
Unlike other sneaker connoisseurs, Tucker isn’t afraid to wear his rare finds on the court.
“I think with playing basketball and sneakers there is no line,” Tucker said. “When I grew up I got shoes to play in. It wasn’t getting shoes and hoarding them or getting them to show off.
“No, it was getting them to play in because that’s what basketball shoes are for.”
On three occasions in 2015 while with the Suns, Tucker played in different variations of Nike Air Yeezy’s, a sneaker designed by hip hop artist Kanye West.
Tucker showed off a small portion of his own personal collection of Air Jordan 3s, including those given to players at North Carolina, Oregon and Michigan.
Of those, Tucker remains adamant navy and maize Michigan variation will be worn at some point this season — even if it means receiving a fine from the league office.
“These will be played in this year, whether they match or not,” Tucker said of the Navy and Maize Michigan Air Jordan 3s. “I’m going to get fined because I am going to wear these shoes in the game.”
As Tucker continued to show off his favorite sneakers to La Puma, the duo came to the “Ginger” variation of the Air Jordan 16s, another shoe that Tucker wore during his time with the Suns.
However, this instance didn’t go as planned.
“It ripped, three minutes,” Tucker said. “The whole sole came off. All my teammates in Phoenix were on the bench crying.”
Once finished explaining his favorite sneakers, Tucker went shopping.
Known for stocking some of the rarest sneakers on the market, Flight Club is Tucker’s go-to store for all of his sneaker needs.
Without hesitation, Tucker walked out of the store with a $16,944 bill and more shoes than the average person probably has in their closet.
Sneakers have always been apart of me. It’s not about bragging or showing off how many you have.. it’s the love of the culture and everything it represents. @jlp will tell you.. i actually just shopped lol the video was just there to catch it.
